CGMI Above Only 10 September 2017, Devotional by Rev. M.E. Benson-Idahosa - How God Works In Our Lives

Topic: How God Works In Our Lives — Sunday September 10, 2017.

Text:  Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV & TLB), John 14:10 (NIV)
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. *He will keep in perfect peace all those who trust in him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord! *Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.

What you occupy your mind with greatly determines what happens in your life. Proverbs 4:23 (GNB) says, “be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.” If you want God to work in your life, you must be ready to fill your mind with His Word. Everything that God does is accomplished by His Word, John 1:1&3. The Spirit of God works with the word of God. That is why the moment Mary said, “be it unto me according to you word,” the Holy Spirit overshadowed her and began to work on her immediately, Luke 1:35-38. The word of God activates the grace of God in our lives and causes God to work in our lives by His Spirit and His power. In our second text above, Jesus testified that it was the Father in Him that was working through Him to manifest the works that He was doing. One reason God could work in Jesus’ life that way was because Jesus always kept His eyes on what the Father was saying and doing, John 5:19.

Like our first text above says, it is not our duty to try to keep ourselves in perfect peace. Our duty is to keep our minds fixed on what God’s word says about us. When our mind is filled and fixed on God’s word, our faith in God is activated and God goes to action to work and perform His word in our lives. Allow the word of God, especially the revelation of Christ, to dwell in you richly, Col.3:16. Rejoice and sing about it and share it with others. Let the word of God fill and consume you. Let it take over your consciousness and awareness. You will naturally walk in greater depths of faith and you will see God work in greater dimensions in your life.

Prayer: Fill my heart with Your word, O Lord. Help me to always keep my mind completely focused on what You are saying to and about me.
