Topic — One Whole Lump: Marriage 4 [Thursday, 31st August 2017]

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. Ephesians 5:25

Jesus said the first members of His Church: “now ye are cleansed by the words which I have spoken to you” (John 15:3). This is a profound statement made by a Groom to His brides. His brides were impure, they were not up to standard. They were probably doing things that were hurting his feelings. They were probably being immature and acting unpleasantly. But all He was after was their cleansing. Cleansing here means development, growth, enhancement, betterment and stability. So, when she is in the wrong, he look out to bring her to the right.

The husband is the cultivator of his wife. He builds her. He supplies her the resources to be who God wants her to be. He cleanses her with his word. He makes her see the queen in her. Scriptures talks about the man, who gave up himself for his wife so “he might sanctify and cleanse it (his wife) with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:26-27). That means, he moulds her to the perfect picture he has envisaged for her, which he has seen from his Lord. Which means, he also must have been built up or is being built up, to the image of His Lord.

The man needs to encourage his wife. Help her achieve her goals. Be there to protect her when the need arises. Help her overcome her weaknesses, and turn them into strength. These he does because he loves her. For the husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it (Ephesians 5:25). Christ does these for us as our espoused husband, and the husband or the would be husband should do the same for his wife.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I pray for husbands around the world that they come to know you, and be the husband you have called them to be, husbands who will cultivate their wives and make them the women you want them to be, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
