Topic — One Whole Lump: Marriage 1 [Monday, 28th August 2017]

Ese Ehimare Dave

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it. Ephesians 5:25

The union of a man with his wife is mirrored by the union of Jesus Christ with His church. Jesus had to leave His Father’s house to come find His bride – the church – and cleave to them, so also does a man leaves his father’s house to cleave to his wife. To cleave is to put together two whole lump to form a new whole lump. A new whole lump, not as two different lumps again, but now as one inseparable lump. Genesis 2:24 says: “therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Marriage synchronizes the man with his wife, just like salvation synchronizes Jesus with His church.

Scriptures make us understand that Christ is not only in us (Colossians 1:27), we are also in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). This is the reality of our lives with Christ. We are in Christ and Christ is in us. This makes us inseparable. No wonder scripture says that nothing can separate us from the love of God, because of the bond of commitment that love is (Romans 8:35-39). This is what marriage does to the man and his wife. He is in her, and she is in him. And nothing should separate them from their bond commitment.

So, just as Christ loved the Church, and gave up Himself for it, so ought the man to also love his wife and give up himself for her (Ephesians 5:25). In marriage, there is no longer the individuals that existed neither is it two individuals living together, but one whole entity bonded by love, purpose, mission and visions. These are very key. For as the marriage of Christ with His Church is for a purpose, to achieve a vision that is laid on the road of a mission, so also is the bond of marriage between a man with his wife. For at this level, the synchronization, the lumping, the bonding and oneness is of a higher plain than just the desire to leave their parents to form a family because they feel they’ve come off age.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, I pray for all couples in the world, and also for intending couples, that by Your Spirit, the reality of the truth of what it means to be married dawns on them, and that they live in the light of it, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
