Topic: By Faith, Not By Fate [Monday, 14th August 2017]

Now the just shall live by faith…Hebrews 10:38

‘Que sera sera, what will be will be.’ I am sure some of us are familiar with this song. The song is a perfect picture of fate. Some folks would say, ‘if it happens it happens’ or for example, if an intending couple are courting, they might say ‘if we are meant to be together, we will be.’ There is no such thing like that for a Christian. We don’t rely on fate to determine what happens to us, or what becomes of our lives. We rely on faith. So we don’t sing ‘que sera sera, what will be, will be’, we deliberately make things happen. We work towards the actualization of our goals. We are not like some fourth century Greek society people who believe his or her life is fated by Zeus. We are the people of the living God who work to make things happens, by faith.

I know Ephesians 2:10 which says “we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them,” might come to mind. And then, people will say God has already fated our lives. Well, if you know God enough, you will know He has not done that. You will understand that, while He has programmed us to live our lives to His praise, He has given us the freewill of choice to determine what happens in our lives. God is not some dictator that dictates to us, He prefers we follow Him in love. He is not going to force you to follow His blueprint for your life, if not everyone on earth would have received the life of Jesus by now. But He has given everyone the freewill to determine what happens in their lives.

You see, faith is deliberate. It is conscious. It is full of action. That’s why scriptures say “faith, if it hath not work, is dead being alone” (James 2:17). Faith without work is fate in disguise. It says ‘I believe this will happen, but if it doesn’t happens I will accept it.’ No. We don’t talk like that. We don’t resign to such nonchalant attitude. Faith works to bring to fruition what it wants. We don’t say ‘if we are meant to be together, we will be’ and then when our attitude and disposition towards one another negate all principles that intending couples should adhere to and we part ways, we say ‘we were not meant to be together.’ Live deliberately by faith, with the right actions, not by resigning to fate.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, today I choose to live deliberately by faith, working things out with the right actions to make my faith come to fruition. I am not resigning to fate, but I consciously live by faith, like the just man of God that I am, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
