Topic: The Minister’s Ministry 1 [Monday, 3rd July 2017]
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry. 1 Timothy 1:12
The word “ministry” in the above scripture is translated from the Greek word “diakonia”, which means service. The Minister is a servant of God, enabled by the Spirit of Jesus, to render service, which Jesus could have rendered if He was on earth. Every kind of ministry falls under this umbrella, and it is a privilege for any member of the body of Christ to be a minister – servant – to other members, not a right. Every minister was chosen by God, enabled and made, they were not self chosen, enabled or made.
It’s sickening to see one who is supposed to be a fellow brethren in the brotherhood of Christ lording it over his fellow brethren, as if they own the key to the destinies of their “flock”. They have forgotten that the flock is Christ’s and not theirs. While we all must appreciate the minister for his/her services, we must make sure not put them in a pedestal of being lords. Every minister – servant – must execute his/her ministry – service – with utmost humility as unto the Lord, and as good steward of God’s flock.
The minister, as servant of the Lord, must be humble enough to know that he is what he is because of the grace of God, and not by his own effort (1 Corinthians 10:15). It was God who counted him faithful (1 Timothy 1:12) and approved Him (2 Timothy 2:15), not that he was necessarily faithful or approved by right. God has placed the minister in this position to be a blessing to His fellow brethren and this he must do with the mindset of a servant and not a lord over his fellow brethren. Be the Lord’s minister, and not a pseudo-lord.

Dear Lord, as Your servant, help me to render my service in the best possible way that Your name be glorified in my service to my fellow brethren. Help me to render my service with all humility, knowing that I am who I am solely by Your grace, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
