Topic: Raise A Cry! [Sunday June 11, 2017]

Text: Ezekiel 19:1-14

Key Verse: “Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel” (Ezekiel 19:1).

In the days of Prophet Ezekiel, just before the Babylonian captivity, God commands the prophet to raise a cry over the nation of Judah and her princes because of the doom coming upon them. Making use of figurative language, the prophet laments the plight of the nation and her kings who were likened to lionesses and young lions.

The imagery of the lion used to describe Judah and her princess here, depicts their strength and glory which they once enjoyed in the days of their great kings like David and Solomon. But now, as a result of continued rebellion and sin, the once strong and ferocious lion was to be taken and kept in a cage of captivity.

This was a clear prediction of the judgment of exile that would befall Judah and her king which eventually came to pass. As we look at the state of the world today, the same situation is playing out and the Lord is calling upon us as Christians to raise a cry of lamentation over the world. There has not been a time in human history that the world is witnessing such atrocities and abominations as we see today. In spite of the increase in the knowledge of God everywhere and evangelistic attempts to reach the world, the world is sinking deeper and deeper into sin and open rebellion against God.

This calls for great lamentation on the part of the Christians for the world. We ought to also raise a cry for the Church that is fast departing from God and getting closer and closer to the world. Instead of winning the world to Christ, the world seems to be succeeding in winning the Church to herself. How we ought to lift up our voice in great lamentation as we know the certain judgment that will come upon the Church for the ungodly alliance.

Thought for the day: When wise men are silent in the face of evil, calamity looms for any people.
