No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24
Scripture make us to understand that before we put our faith on the sacrifice of Jesus that obtained salvation for us, we were slaves to sin, to serve sin (Romans 6:17). Sin was our Master. We did its bidding anytime it bids us. There was no way we could have listened to any other voice apart from the voice of sin. We were totally sold out to its service. But now, all that has changed. For we now have a new Master - Righteousness. Romans 6:18 say, "being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."
As servants, our loyalty rest with one master. If our loyalty is divided between two masters, there is no way we can be dedicated to both. As scriptures says "no man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24). As servants to righteousness, our loyalty must be absolute. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should OBEY ITS lust thereof (Romans 6:12).
Our obedience is absolutely to righteousness, because we are it's servants only. We must be proud servants of Righteousness. We must absolutely follow its lead always, even when our former master wants to get us to work for him. We must remind ourselves that Righteousness has bought us with a huge price (1 Corinthians 7:23). It has bought our full allegiance and loyalty. Stay loyal to your Master, as servant of Righteousness.
Keep winning daily.
Dear Lord, thank You for making me a servant of righteousness. I am absolutely loyal to Righteousness. I will not obey the voice of my ex-master, Sin. I will only obey the voice of Righteousness, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
