Winning Wisdom: Seek His Face

Topic: Seek His Face — Wednesday, 16th August 2017.

Ese Ehimare Dave

Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Psalms 105:4

What better way to experience God daily than to continually seek His face and to know His ways? Most folks see God as their meal ticket or as the guy that comes to fix their plumbing when it gets bad, and after that, He is allowed to stay out as long as their lives are moving smoothly until something else happens that needs fixing. How tragic is this? Because they don't seem to know what they are missing out from. Well, if you are one of such folks, I can assuredly assure you that you are missing out on a lot of things.

Years ago, I did a story about a 105 year-old Bosnian granny who had just been treated by a doctor for the first time in her life. Millian MARKOVIC slipped and fell in her house in a remote mountain village near Srebrenica in Eastern Bosnia recently and broke her leg. Her son told the visiting doctors that she had never been ill in her life! Wow! At 105, she had never been ill! Mrs. Markovic was not even registered then in the local hospital in Sebrenica. Imagine it again: For 105 years, a soul on this planet had never seen a doctor!

I believe the psalmist discovered the secret to living ordinary days with extraordinary enthusiasm. He simply decided and declared that since the Lord had made each day, and that it was a gift to him, he would enjoy it and be glad. He made a decision that produced the feelings he wanted rather than waiting to see how he felt.

Elijah who eliminated hundreds of Baal’s prophets and restored true worship to Israel fled at the threat of a woman. Warrior Gideon succumbed to idolatry after a brilliant military career.

Child of God, do you truly know who you are?” Think deeply on this. Don’t be too quick to give an answer. We all know how easy it is to sing, “I know who God says I am, what He says I am….I know who I am”. We know how to sound all religious and Christianly but somehow our actions differ when we are faced with real-life situations that challenge us. In such situations, how do you respond? That is where the rubber meets the road!

Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27

Jesus states what the devil wants to do when he comes into the lives of people, when He said that "the thief cometh not but to steal, kill and destroy..." (John 10:10). Satan's got nothing positive to add to a life. He wants to steal, kill and destroy all that God has given us. That's his agenda whenever he is given a place in the lives of people. And this is why we must not give him any place in our lives for him to carry out his agenda. Because any place we give to him, no matter how small, He will exploit it to his advantage to steal, kill and destroy.

Just consider Moses leading between 2 to 3 million people requiring food in the desert years ago, according to the Quartermaster General of the American Army, it was reported that Moses would have had 1500 tons of food everyday, requiring two freight trains, each one and half kilometers long. They would have to have had firewood for use in cooking the food. This would take 4,000 tons of wood and more freight (cargo) trains, each one and half kilometers long just for one day. And just think about it, they were forty years in transit, in a wilderness. And oh yes, they would have to have had water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11 million gallons each day and a cargo train with tanks that are 2,500 kilometers long just to bring water.

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Beloved, in order for the believer to be thankful, he must see clearly and accurately. The believer must see beyond any other image that the enemy is showing him; in his family, finances, health, business, spiritual life, and in every other area of life. You must constantly see that you belong to an unshakable kingdom. Therefore, you cannot suffer loss, irrespective of what is happening around you. Your vision must align with God’s vision for you that, come rain, come sunshine, you are victorious! This is why you have to be thankful. You are thankful because you know beyond every shadow of a doubt that your God is too faithful to fail. He never lies, and He won’t start now. Every word He has spoken concerning you will come to pass. That is what you must be focused on.

Topic: Understanding Christian Courtship (2)

Last week, I started teaching on Understanding Christian Courtship and we examined the purpose of the courtship period. This week, I will be teaching on “How long and how far you should go with courtship.”

Courtship does not have a particular duration. There are ‘no scriptural references that say exactly how long courtship should be. Most Biblical examples vary from couple to couple like Isaac and Rebecca, Jacob and Rachel, Jacob and Leah in Genesis 24, 29:1-30. However, the Word of God in Ecclesiastes 10:10 says: ….Wisdom is profitable to direct.  Since marriage is a lifetime affair it is not a thing to be rushed into but it is important to be sure you know each other well enough. Even though courtship is not how long but how well; the period should be reasonably long enough for both of you to get to know each other well and to be able to live together all the days of your lives.

For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man. Luke 21:34-36 (NLT)

Thought For The Day: Do it now!

One major peculiarity of this generation is the plague of carelessness, especially with regard to spiritual matters. We live in a careless generation. People prepare for wedding and spend a lot of money on it but they never prepare for marriage. That is why many weddings succeed but the marriages fail. Imagine a very successful wedding ceremony that ended in a marriage that is a total mess. People prepare for classroom examinations but they never prepare for eternity or life after death. Very pathetic!

This scripture and the parallel scripture in Matthew 24:27 make it very clear that the second return of Jesus will be no secret to anyone. In Matthew's account, it is especially clear that this statement about the lightning was made so that we wouldn't be deceived by false Christs. Just as lightning is visible to everyone, so the second return of Jesus will be witnessed by the whole world. Now the just shall live by faith...Hebrews 10:38

'Que sera sera, what will be will be.' I am sure some of us are familiar with this song. The song is a perfect picture of fate. Some folks would say, 'if it happens it happens' or for example, if an intending couple are courting, they might say 'if we are meant to be together, we will be.' There is no such thing like that for a Christian. We don't rely on fate to determine what happens to us, or what becomes of our lives. We rely on faith. So we don't sing 'que sera sera, what will be, will be', we deliberately make things happen. We work towards the actualization of our goals. We are not like some fourth century Greek society people who believe his or her life is fated by Zeus. We are the people of the living God who work to make things happens, by faith.

“Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God.” Hebrews 12:28 (MSG)

All over the world, nations are seeking answers to unending questions. Even the economies that seemed stable at some point, are having to reevaluate themselves. The world is in a state of turmoil. And there seem to be more questions than answers. However, in all of this, the Bible tells us that the unshakable kingdom is ours. Therefore, our attitude in this should be one of sincere gratitude and worship to God, who has given us the victory. While the world is running helter-skelter, looking for some form of stability, we are standing firmly upon a rock that can never be shaken. Yes the seas may rage, as they already are, but we know the One who rules over the raging sea; He stills the waves when they arise, and by this, I am assured, that whatever storm is raging in your life, shall be silenced in Jesus name.

Some of our religious leaders have taught their members and made them believe that, only through their churches will they make heaven and other churches lead their members to hell. This ought not to be. When Paul discovered this kind of attitude among the Corinth brethren, he never took it as honour but rebuked them sharply. He made them understand that him and Apollos were just labourer but God is the centre of all things they're doing. To you that believe that only your church will lead men to heaven and other churches are not going anywhere, listen to me, even in the Church of Satan, many shall be saved if they turn to Christ in repentance. To such religious practitioners Jesus said in Matt 21:31, "Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you". Jesus also said in Matt 19:30, "But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first". May this not be your portion in Jesus Mighty Name

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. - 1 Timothy 2:1-2

That verse is clear, isn’t it? The instruction is plain. Yet even in these tumultuous days when our nation is so desperately in need of God’s guidance, most of God’s people don’t do what that verse commands.

Scripture: ...Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him. 1 Samuel 16:18

Thought For The Day: The depth of your devotion affects the height of your distinction in life.

One of the men who lived life at the utmost peak was King David. His attributes took him from ordinary existence to extra ordinary existence, from the wilderness to the palace.

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom . . . — 1 Corinthians 1:30

I believe we ought to get all the education we can, but we dare not make it our god. John Dewey once defined education as the systematic, purposeful reconstruction of experience; but so much of modern education leaves out God. What we are actually doing is reconstructing our sins. We expand our sins, enlarge them, multiply them.

Luke 17:18 "There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger."

LUKE 17:11-18

Relatively few people who receive the goodness of the Lord return to give Him thanks for what He has done. That does not keep the Lord from doing what is right for us. He healed all ten of these lepers according to their request - not just the one who was thankful. However, there was only one out of the ten that was made "whole."

Read: Matthew 18:1–10, Bible in a Year: Psalms 89–90; Romans 14

Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children. Matthew 19:14 nlt

Thomas Barnado entered the London Hospital medical school in 1865, dreaming of life as a medical missionary in China. Barnado soon discovered a desperate need in his own front yard—the many homeless children living and dying on the streets of London. Barnado determined to do something about this horrendous situation. Developing homes for destitute children in London’s east end, Barnado rescued some 60,000 boys and girls from poverty and possible early death. Theologian and pastor John Stott said, “Today we might call him the patron saint of street kids.”

Now therefore thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways and set your mind on what has come to you. - Haggai 1:5

God has a great big, wonderful, fulfilling life planned for you and me, but if we are stubborn (see Exodus 33:3) or hard-hearted, then we will miss what He has for us. Stubbornness and refusal to hear and obey God's voice keeps us set in our ways and unable to make progress. When we find ourselves in this condition, we often fail to stop and ask ourselves what the problem is.

No matter what you are passing through right now, learn to count your blessings.

Topic: Appreciate What You Have [Sunday 13 August, 2017]

(Psalm 136:1-26).

Consider the mediation below:

Today in a bus, I saw a lovely maid with a bunch of beautiful golden hair. I envied her and wished I were as fair. When suddenly she arose to aligh, I saw the braces as she wobbled. She was a victim of polio! Oh God forgive me, when I whine(murmur). I have two straight feet, yet I complained! When I alighted from the bus, I stopped to buy some sweets. The lad who sold them had such a great charm. I talked with him. He said to me, “It’s nice to talk with folks like you. You see, I am blind.” Oh God, forgive me when I whine (complain). I have two eyes. The world is mine! Then walking down the street, I saw a child with a blue eyes. He stood and watched others play. It seemed he knew not what to do. I stopped for a moment, then I said, “why don’t you join the others dear?” He looked ahead without aa word and then I knew he could not hear. Oh God, forgive me when I whine (complain)!

Scripture: A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. Proverbs 28:20

Thought For The Day: A faithful Christian will see more favour with God than an unfaithful Christian.

Faithfulness means undivided loyalty and submission, absolute commitment, consistency of character, trustworthiness or dependability. It also means performance according to expectation.

John 11:44 "And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go."

JOHN 11:44

Symbolically, Lazarus is like many Christians. The Bible speaks of us passing from death unto new life when we get born again. But it is also true that in the physical and emotional realm, we bring our "graveclothes" from our old life with us (i.e. habits, attitudes, etc.), and we need to be "loosed" to fully enjoy our new life.

Christ died and rose again . . . so that he can be our Lord both while we live and when we die. Romans 14:9 (TLB)

With a frequency that is amazing, the Bible affirms the fact of the bodily resurrection of Christ. Perhaps the most direct of all its statements is Luke’s account in the book of Acts, where he reports, “To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days” (Acts 1:3). What are we going to do with these “many infallible proofs”? Someone asked my colleague George Beverly Shea how much he knew about God. He said, “I don’t know much, but what I do know has changed my life.” We may not be able to take all of this evidence into a scientific laboratory and prove it; but, if we accept any fact of history, we must accept the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
