Winning Wisdom: Quench Not The Spirit

Topic: Quench Not The Spirit [18/8/2016]

Text: 1 Thessalonians 1:19

Even as much as God's Spirit wants to partner with us to ensure success in every areas of our lives, it is very important for us to understand His workings and not put Him off, from doing what He wants to do in our lives. The Holy Spirit loves and care about us so much. And because of this, He wants to direct us aright always. But we can put off His influence in our lives, if we are not careful. Putting off the Holy Spirit's influence in our lives is not what we should look forward to, because it's effects are disastrous.

One of the easiest way to quench the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is to constantly refuse to follow His lead. The Holy Spirit knows the end product of all we are involved in, and He knows what we should do to get there. But when He tells us what to do and we deliberately disobey Him or refuse to follow His lead, He will withdraw His influence from us. That's why Apostle Paul admonishes us to "quench not the Spirit." (1 Thessalonians 5:19). King Saul had the Holy Spirit influencing him in his early days as king. But when he failed to follow the instructions of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit and His influence over Saul's life was curtailed and eventually, Saul fell out of favour with God.

Yes, that was in the dispensation of the law and it is true that God's Spirit won't live us (John 14:16), but we can shut out His influence in our lives, if we consistently disobey His instructions. He will live in us but will be dormant until we repent and follow His instructions. By then, we might have experienced some disastrous failures which might set our lives backward. That is why we must not quench the Holy Spirit's influence in our lives. Heed to His instructions always.
Keep winning daily.

Dear Lord, I leverage on Your grace to always follow the instructions of Your Spirit. I will not quench Your influence in my life by being disobedient. I trust in Your lead and will follow You always, in Jesus' name. Amen.
