DCLM Daily Manna, Friday June 10 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi - Little But Important Service

Topic: Little But Important Service [Friday June 10, 2016]

Text: 1 Chronicles 9:14-22

Key Verse: "All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office" (1 Chronicles 9:22).

Bees pollinate many of the world’s crops - a service estimated to be worth $24 billion a year in America alone, or about a third of Amazons yearly revenue. Is it amazing that as insignificant as a tiny bee is, the value it adds to the existence of mankind is immense? Some services may appear little but very significant.

From our text, we find an account of Levites who were chosen to do the work of porters in the house of God. They were said to be keepers of the gates of the tabernacle, keepers of the host of the Lord and the entry points to the city of Jerusalem. The number of porters was put at two hundred and twelve dedicated men who were under the supervision of the high priest and his children. The lesson we learn here is about the dedication of these young men and the importance they attach to their duties. They did not treat their duties with disdain or regard them as menial or unimportant.

We must come to realize that our rewards do not come according to the size of the work we do in the Lord's house; it is according to how faithful we are in doing it. Nowadays, all workers want to preach as pastors and teach at the pulpit. Such people easily forget that some of us have been ordained of God to be good ushers just to stand at the door and serve the body of Christ. Since we cannot all be pastors or evangelists, teachers or prophets and apostles, we must keep the charge over the little work we have been asked to do. There are abiding rewards in being faithful to the tasks assigned to us in the body of Christ.

Thought for the day: Little with faithfulness is better than much with insincerity.
