Topic: Who Made You A Judge? [Saturday May 14, 2016]

Text: Romans 14:1-9

Key Verse: “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand” (Romans 14:4).

A certain primary school teacher was fond of flogging his pupils over failed questions in hygiene. On a certain Friday, he requested a group of pupils to carry his books to his house within the school premises. This they all jumped at not for love of their teacher but because they had a mischief up their sleeves. As soon as they entered the teacher’s apartment, they requested to drink water, a request the teacher readily granted and pointed them to a water pot in the kitchen. Lo and behold the pot was without a cover. He tried to explain but the pupils who were excited by their discovery never bothered to listen. Did the teacher teach himself?

Believers are God’s servants occupying various positions in the church with various levels of responsibilities in the execution of the services, activities and projects of the church at various levels of knowledge and intelligence and complementing one another. The weak brother ought not be despised but encouraged. Though we must desist from judging fellow believers in small and trivial issues, yet in matters of doctrine, holy living and Christlikeness, faith and morals, we must be firm but fair that the weaker ones do not misconstrue our intentions as lording it over them.

To do this as true Christian believers, we must evaluate, correct and rebuke where necessary, in love and humility. Let us always remember that we have one Master to whom we are all answerable. He is the Judge of all the earth and has laid down for us all the basic principles of discipleship.

Thought for the day: A product of grace boasts not of personal triumph, but of the glory of Christ.
